Now the results from the largest and longest ever study using ginkgo for Alzheimer's disease and dementia have been published and the results are dissapointing.

The study was double blind and involved 3000 people aged between 72 and 96 over a 7 year period. Results showed that taking a 120mg dose of ginkgo extract twice daily did not reduce the incidence of Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Reasearcher also found that ginkgo had no effect on overall cognitive decline including memory and language attention.

This was a dissapointing result however one of the researchers did mention that "There is a large body of previously published evidence, as well as ongoing trials, which suggest that ginkgo biloba is effective for helping to improve cognitive impairment in older adults,". Thus this does not prove diffinitively that gingko is dead.
